Presentation

Trained at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris and at the École des Arts appliqués Olivier De Serres, Valérie Belmokhtar held exhibitions in France, the United States, Japan and Belgium.

Her works are populated with reinterpreted mythological visions, childhood images and melancholic dreams, creating a sensual universe, a mirror to the unconscious, mid-way between wonder and spleen, memory and inner visions… a mysterious and soft pictorial space, that gives a floating feeling. Valérie Belmokhtar's drawings and prints are as delicate as the slow and patient weaving of the paper, inspired by (but free from) fundamental texts and multiple references.

Valérie Belmokhtar builds a poetic, intimate and sensitive world while exploring a wide variety of visual expressions, creating with the same meticulosity paintings, drawings, prints, illustrations, and photomontages.

Valérie Belmokhtar has also illustrated the children's book “Desserts à lire et à croquer” ("Desserts to read and chew") published by Éditions Mango, which has received a prize for youth literature, the Editions Paumes (Japan) published her work in the book “Atelier de filles 2” ("Workshop for girls 2"); she has produced illustrations for the press (Le Monde, le Magazine Littéraire) and for children's novels published by Syros.
