Claire Artemyz

Born in: 1961

France

Biography
After a career in neurobiology, Claire Artemyz began practicing photography in 1997. She joined "Ecole des Gobelins" and continued her training in video and photography. She lives and works in Paris. Her first artistic research established a dialogue with abandoned places, she named them "lieux blessés" then ventured into the field of experimental video. In 2004, she came back to photography and was interested by tattooing, physical changes and therefore began the “Paysages de corps" series, which made us wonder about body language and the issue of identity. An identity, which was addressed via another recurring theme in her work: the skull, demonstrating boundless intimacy and questioning beyond human species. She wandered through the world of fossil and shed light on the origins of life and man with "Mémoires". Claire Artemyz explores the world of the living or dead, past and present with scientific precision and an artistic eye. She uses and works with light to better reveal these fragments of bodies and objects. The images are abstract and aren't retouched after the photo is shot and carried out in silver. Claire Artemyz exhibited all around the world. The museum curators believed in her and therefore acknowledged the quality and importance of her work. They exhibited her photography under a new aspect. Her photography is displayed in several private collections in France and abroad.
