Axel Rhod was born in 1965 and lived for a while during his childhood in Africa; that time has marked his inspiration and his future work.
Passionate about drawing, he switched to photography and moved to Canada in the late 80s. He stayed in Canada for 2 years and worked with a photographer who has helped him find out how to sculpt the light in order to make an image.
In parallel he continued to produce representations of his imagination through assemblages of materials and objects. A self-taught artist, he even allows himself to do all the things that art students learn not to do.
Working with metal, stone or wood has opened him infinite possibilities, confronting the reality of the mechanical world from which he takes his raw material with the fantasy of his sensitive universe.
