Presentation

Born in France in 1976, Guillaume Guerin lives and works in Berlin.

A photographer and a videographer, he chose the still and the animated image as mediums of expression because of their complementarity. Lately he doesn't believe in the objectivity of the Symbol anymore and he left it aside in order to devote himself to an abstraction that he names "Antisymbol".

His work is the support of an open reflection: the place of the spirit faced to the Image in a time when the image has become omniscient and ubiquitous and everything functions in a standardized manner.

His reflection is close to French essayist Paul Virilio's work.

The abstraction in his work is a defense to the automated perception of images; each piece that we look at begins with a question: "What do I see?" and therefore "How I place myself when faced to it". It is a basic reflex that he thinks we have forgotten, as we are in a system that "worships the moment".

The animated image opens for variations, its experimental approach of the image is made basically through the video. His creative dogma rejects the use of references for narrative or demonstrative support. His videos are the reflection of an Image that he wishes to name without showing it.

The still images (his photographs) are the pictograms of his video experiments, abstractions of reality.
