Daniel Sygit is a French artist born in 1955. In the years 80 - 90, the work of Daniel Sygit presents Man in his elusive, evanescent dimension. He is a shadow at the same time alone, ghostly, sometimes suffering, escaping from a scrupulously numbered multiplicity. Unnamed, he appears and disappears, caught up in that "somewhere" that, by definition, he cannot inhabit. He is "Nameless" ... he is "Homeless", stuck to walls which engulf him and on which only the spelling of his passage ("Walls") will remain. The man is, de facto, a "passer-by" like Rimbaud was, whose shoes were, in the 90s, the subject of several works by the artist (private collection). The ghosts have now disappeared, they have given way to these meticulously frozen, empty and bituminous railway landscapes that they shaped and kneaded from start to finish. These "non-places" make "traces". There remains the nostalgia and melancholy of banality. Make no mistake, if these perspectives inspire vertigo it is because they lead to ourselves ...
