Jérôme Royer was born in Reims, France in February 1975. He was passionate about design from a very young age, guided by his painter uncle and encouraged by his professors and friends. He passed the baccalauréat art examination with much success. However, despite his passion, he considered artistic practice a simple pass-time and decided to pursue studies in the building industry.

Jérôme started his career at a construction company and stopped designing during a time before the circumstances of life drove him to leave the company, to become a contractor and architect. The first was not crossed.

His artistic path was actually triggered on Instagram, where he started to post photos of his designs. The enthusiasm of his growing fan base persuaded him to follow his calling. He started designing more and more, one design per week and then per day… Then came the discovery of painting, particularly watercolor. The little free time he had was occupied by making art, and with the financial crisis impacting his professional job, he decided to devote himself to painting full time. He focused on perfecting his skill and expressing his creativity, and started to debut his paintings at expositions. It was like the universe had helped him become an artist. As Einstein said, “We will have the destiny we deserve.”

Martial arts, specifically aïkido and tai chi chuan, are very important in Jérôme’s artistic process. He handles his brush with a steady hand and uses movement and energy to bring his pieces to life. He throws the paint in short movements, he drags his brush with lightness, he listens to his heart. He mixes fine painting and detail with stylistic curves both intuitive and spontaneous.

Jérôme Royer’s faith in humanity leads him to put mankind at the center of his work, which mixes both figurative and abstract techniques. His philosophy is based on the balance of Ying and Yang. His wish as an artist is to touch and, maybe, inspire the lives of others.
