Muriel Patarroni

Born in 1973 - France

Muriel Patarroni was born in 1973 in Paris. She graduated from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts décoratifs in Paris.

She works with contrasts offered by the flawless use of charcoal, Muriel Patarroni invites the spectator to gaze at her works in which she expresses her relationship with nature but also her passion for cinematic environments.

Crumbly, powdery and dry, charcoal is the tool since the dawn of time. Essential and simple, it's good for experimenting. Playing around with erasure, covering, scraping or scratching effects, the artist gives a lyrical breath of wind in her drawings and accentuates through narrative emotions that can be felt as much in a dark room as in a rock art sanctuary.

Through interpreting and without any mystery withdrawal, Patarroni's large compositions invite the spectator to go with the flow. Absorbed by the obvious purity of snowy landscapes, the spectator takes a stroll through the woods, and leaves the trace of his look on the immense wilderness.

Human beings aren't directly present. Just a car swept away by a flood, one might wonder if it's floating aimlessly in a calm river under the majestic look of a deer. It is neither black nor white, and the contrast and tranquility are just visible. Muriel Patarroni's works are deliberately made to be ambiguous, they lead the spectator towards a point of balance and leave him the choice to see-saw between his own fears, his dreams, his own relationship with the world.
