Presentation

Born in 1970 in Argenteuil. Lives and works in Paris.

Trained at EMSAT, then at the École supérieure des beaux-arts de Cherbourg-Octeville, he brought back from his national service in the navy, a sketchbook published later under the title Carnets d'un matelot. In 1994, this work received the Prix Jeunesse Gabier at the Festival Livre et Mer in Concarneau.

Noticed after the publication of Speed Reducer in 1999, Blain revealed himself to the general public by illustrating Donjon Potron-Minet (1999 to 2006) on scenarios by Joann Sfar and Lewis Trondheim. Solo, he confirms the expectations of his readership with Isaac the pirate (2001-2005). He continued his creations with Gus, a comic and romantic western series published from 2007 to 2009. In 2010-2011, he worked with Abel Lanzac (pseudonym of diplomat Antonin Baudry) in order to produce Quai d'Orsay, a comic strip directly inspired by the Antonin Baudry's experience as a pen with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dominique de Villepin. As a result of this collaboration, two volumes of Quai d'Orsay will be published by Dargaud editions, which will win great success and numerous prizes.

As a tribute to Guy Peellaert, in 2013 he published La Fille, a comic strip interpreted and sung by Barbara Carlotti.
Blain is one of the only comic book authors to have twice won the Angoulême festival's best album award for Les Amériques, first volume of Isaac the pirate and for Chroniques diplomatique, second volume of Quai d'Orsay.
