François Boucheix was born in 1940 in an isolated farm in the heart of Auvergne. At fifteen, following the death of his father, which will deeply affect him, François is obliged to drop school for work. Quickly, he spends his free time painting, until late at night, and gets passionate about surrealists painters.
In 1960, conscript, he brings his canvas and brushes to Tunisia. After a few months, it is suggested that he shows his artworks to the officers' club : François Boucheix is 20, this is his first exhibition. Forced to return to France without his paintings, he offers most of them to comrades and officers with whom he had sympathized, keeping only four which wouldn't clear Tunisian customs without some troubles.
In 1964, answering to an ad in the newspaper L'Aurore, François Boucheix goes to Paris to show his artworks to the Sèvres gallery. Bernard Bellaïche is immediately seduced by the originality of his style, and makes him sign a 5-year exclusive contract. Boucheix's first exhibition in the Sèvres gallery, the following year, is a success. He is adulated by the "Tout-Paris", establishes a friendship with Salvador Dali, and exhibitions in the whole world follow at a steady pace.
François Boucheix is a synesthete : he does *hear* colors. His paintings, of great poetry, are not only pictorial works, but they are also, for those who are able how to read them, *musical* artworks : color scores cadenced by a skilled composition and by the recurrence of his favorite items. His work is furthermore imbued by classical music.
In 1990, following advice from his friend César, François Boucheix tries sculpture, and creates more than 70 bronze models.
In 2007, he opens a personal museum in the spa town of Vichy. Painting being for him a vital function, he continues to paint daily.
Boucheix sees himself as the Last of the surrealists, champion of a "dreamy" surrealism.
