Florence Gaty

Photography has become obvious to Florence Gaty throughout the trip. After training at the Ecole des Métiers in 2000 in Paris, she made a first report in Mozambique. It was the first in a long history with Africa. She traveled it for 10 years, reporting both personally and for NGOs and at the same time, for the big industry which is essential on this continent. Of all her images, she wrote a story "Africa with an Open Heart". Florence was the winner of the CARE International Grand Prize for Humanitarian Reporting at Visa pour l'Image, for her work in Benin “Peau de chagrin, L'ulcère de Buruli” in September 2003. Approach: “We do not travel with impunity”, the truths of some touch us. They shake up the borders of our culture, ruin our foundations. They cause the righteous to be deep inside us, known as unknown, close as different, alike as strangers. It is through respect that we reach the sensitive cords of "the magic of understanding between human beings" said an old Peul man in Niger. In the course of her reporting, it is this respect, in spite of difficult conditions and sometimes unbearable acts, that she tries to approach. The economy but also the blind certainties of some can only engender terrible frustration and, one day, an inevitable explosion of violence, whether individual or collective. From all her experiences, Inspired in particular by the Invisibles of Africa, since the end of 2012, Florence is now devoting herself to a new approach to photography. “I had to find a resonance for the revolt that is in me. A silence, a part of a dream; a more feminine world ”. I search through vast spaces where freedom is breathed, as through the beauty of the infinitesimal, forms, beings, a language, maybe the one that gets lost between man and nature, between men themselves same. I have no more words to describe this strange world. I can only imagine it.
