Didier Frydman

Born in Paris 59 years ago, I live and work in Seine-Saint-Denis. As a professor of history at the University, art occupies an important place in my professional life. I have devoted university research to it, I give art history courses and train teachers to teach it. It is therefore as an extension of this activity that I moved on to creation. I regularly participate in group exhibitions: Lil'Art (Les Lilas), Center d'art 49/93 (Romainville), Château de l'Etang (Bagnolet), open doors of artists' studios (Montreuil, Romainville), Gallery Funny Birds (Montreuil). I have also presented my works on the occasion of individual exhibitions: La Joie de Lire bookstore (Finistère), Brasserie Le Coq français (Les Lilas). My paintings represent cities, either lost in infinite spaces, or in very close-up vision giving them labyrinthine aspects. Dominated by tormented skies, vertiginous mountains, sometimes on the edge of the abyss or exposed to waves that can submerge them, vertical cities evoke the human ambition to rise up and the vanity of this project. The theme of man facing his finiteness that runs through my creations is very likely related to the tragic story of my family, largely decimated in the Nazi camps.
