Dupuy - Berberian

Charles Berberian was born in 1959 in Bagdad, Irak. After few years spent at Lebanon, he starts at 18, the School of Beaux Arts of Paris, where he met François Avril. His first cartoons are published in different magazines, and are really influenced by graphic style of Ralph Steadman.

Philippe Dupuy published in 1980 his first cartoon, "Gaspard's father", in the magazine Aïe !, created by André Leborgne (Editions Distri B.D). He works just after with many other magazines.

In 1983, Charles Berberian and Philippe dupuy met and work together at P.L.G.P.P.U.R (Plein la gueule pour pas un rond). They decided to work actually together and published in P.L.G, a first of their collaboration, a tribute to Hergé, on the paper "Band'à Part n°13 (1983). Their sign (script and drawing - Dupuy et Berberian) become indissociable.

Their first stories are published in "Les heros ne meurent jamais".

In 1984 they start at the famous magazine "Fluide Glacial". The created "Red", "Basile and Gégé" and also "Le journal d'henriette".

In 1985, they publish "Le petit peintre", at the Magic-Strip editions.

In 1987, they work for Chantal Thomas, on a portfolio edited by Michel Lagarde.

They work also for many children's editions, like Je bouquine, Mikado etc..

In 1996, Cornélius publish the "New York book", real diary of their stay at the US. From this book will be created 4 comics, where are from the four drawings edited by the Gallery L'Oeil ouvert.

With the graphism really strong and simple of their work and their stories, made with humor and sweetness, Philippe Dupuy and Charles Berbérian became really famous and one of the major figure of the creators of french comics.

They've been rewarded by the Price of Angoulême in 2008.
