Presentation

It was in 1985 that Christian Gosselin had his first exhibition in an apartment in Montparnasse, occasionally transformed into an art gallery by Giovanni Licata and Valentina Vitale, both musicians and Italians. He then met the gallery owner Jean-Claude Riedel with whom he began to work. His art is transformed, he gradually abandons art brut to turn to painting and more particularly oil painting. A very encrypted abstract painting, made of sand and oil, already telling us about the cosmos, what the stars are made of, the race of the sky. In 1986, he discovered Italy, an initiatory journey where he discovered Piero della Francesca, Giotto, the Byzantine mosaic, Etruscan art and the light of Italy 'in situ'. In the 1990s, the Arlette Gimaray gallery took an interest in her work, and many exhibitions followed. In the years to follow the artist, works in parallel between France, Germany and Belgium. The 2000s will be Italian, with his first exhibitions in Veneto, Vicenza will become 'his' second city, he becomes friends with Italian artists. The 2010s will see a very profound change in this artist who is still in search. He abandoned painting to turn to drawing, whose lightness he appreciated. The paper becomes the skin of his work, the Indian ink, the colored inks that he makes the 'sap' of his drawings. From these trips, it is from Italy that the artistic path that he takes today will come, the mosaics of Ravenna and Venice open up another universe of reveries, a limitless workspace. If the division of space remains the fundamental rule of these assemblies, it is the paper which will become the basis of this work instead of old techniques. The 2010s will also see this artist open up to other modes of expression such as video and installation projects which allow him to initiate multidisciplinary collaborations combining contemporary music and visual arts.
