Maëva Bouchilaouene studied Fine Arts in Angers.
Through her work, she introduces the notion of the body into urban space. She questions the street space in her personal and research practice. The urban space appears as a reflection of the city dwellers who practice it. The urban anthropologist Colette Pétonnet explains that the urban setting is not without influences on social relations. For her, “Knowledge of others is born from space itself, that is, from its form.” This symbiosis between man and the street draws a meeting space. Colette Pétonnet describes the street as “theatre with simultaneous scenes”. The street, the built space, appears as a reflection of the standard of living, the social sphere to which the inhabitants belong. It is also a place of protest. The street embodies the complex problems that animate today’s society.
Her work also focuses on a documentary practice that she transcribes through sound installations and videos. At the frontier of fiction and documentary, the recurring themes of his work revolve around human relations. With the help of various mediums, she tries to transcribe at best an experience, a life story where the juxtaposition of videos, photos and texts brings a complementary vision.
Her audiovisual practice is influenced by the work of director Clarisse Hahn or by the work of artist Anna Malagrida who works on the city and the way of living it.
