Didier Ventabren

Born in: 1960

Born in Nimes in 1960, Didier Venabren is a French painter. He lives ad works in the South of France.

He started painting at the age of 13 and developed a personal style influenced by the Mediterranean culture, rich in materials and colors. Didier Venabren finds his inspiration in the streets of Nimes and more particularly in the Greco-Roman heritage of the city, which leads him to explore classical mythology.

His work is at the limit between abstraction and figuration, he paints imaginary masks always following the same creative process. He paints horizontally from the bottom to the top, adding several layers or refining them through the technique of friction. His pieces are the transcription of his positive and negative experiences.
The masks he paints do not represent a physical reality but a multicolored world, noisy and primitive, where the figures hide to fight the dramas and the other tragedies of real life. The use of unusual material are references to reality.

Didier Ventabren uses his origins and his experiences in order to constantly create modern pieces of art.
