Bertrand Mahieu

Eclectic artist, eager for new sensations, fond of rubbing shoulders with matter, Bertrand explores and tries to create new artistic worlds. To leave the painting to apprehend the matter appeared to him as a matter of course. His early work was based on mineral concrete coated on wood support with prints of acrylic paint. Currently, he focuses on the work "Oxidation". 

Steel sheets are subject to rust attack. The heating with the blowtorch, the brushing give rise tints of a material changing in the light. By mastering the process, and drawing with water, he creates silhouettes, spectra and diverse landscapes, between figurative and abstraction.

At the age of 9, he took classes for children at Arras Fine Arts reinforcing his taste for oil painting, he acquired the techniques. He entered the National Conservatory of Music of Lyon, he took courses in History of Art, a discipline in which he validated 2 years of license after enrolling in 2004 at the University of Lille 3. Musician training, he became a professional violinist at the age of 29 after attending the National Conservatory of Music of Lyon. He held the position of first solo violin of the Rouen opera from 1993 to 2015. 

In 2012, a disease in his left hand is diagnosed and must undergo several surgeries following which he will unfortunately have to abandon his job as a musician. It is now towards plastic art that Bertrand turns and enjoys the vibration of its privileged support, the sheet steel which reveals shades of colors and textures, such as a musical note, in a score.
