French artist of Franco-Polish origin born in 1973, Koks, after having painted sporadically since adolescence, developed his artistic activity from 2010. The upsurge in his pictorial production allowed the realization of several exhibitions since that date in the Caen region, then in Deauville and finally in Paris where the Sonia Monti gallery welcomes him in 2019. Grandson of Polish immigrants, son of a miner, he grew up in a world that was sometimes harsh but rich in values that built it. From this childhood, he retains great modesty in the expression of his feelings.
Painting therefore constitutes a privileged medium for the transmission of emotions, explaining why it is so difficult for him to talk about his paintings. Later, for Koks, painting also constitutes a form of outlet with regard to what constitutes his professional reality, which is highly constrained and far removed from the world of Fine Arts. Koks is a self-taught, self-confident artist. This “singularity” contributes to the great freedom he shows in his creative process. The exclusive use of large canvases frees expression, opens up spaces even if it means not completely investing them. Working with oil with a brush, a knife
and even with the syringe allows to express the explosiveness sought by the artist. His abstract work is first expressed through series of red, white and black canvases to gradually enrich themselves with new colors to saturation such as the eponymous canvas.
Koks' first figurative work allows him to explore the expression of emotions through what evokes in him the singer Ian Curtis, member of the English rock group Joy Divison, whose tortured personality is restored through the unique use of the black and white. Then
