Presentation

Thierry Chavenon was born in 1966, he is a painter and cinema head decorator. Creation has always been his family background: his father is a draftsman in an architectural firm while his grand mother worked in the sector of opera decors. In fact, the latter registered Thierry Chavenon at the Modern Art School (ESAM). Once Chavenon graduated, he became a decorator. He began his career by being Luc Besson's intern for the movie Nikita. He then worked for prestigious film projects as head decorators for movies like « De l’autre cote du periph » by David Charhon and « En solitaire » by Christophe Offenstein.

He never gave up on cinema but began painting, as his passion to create was uncontrollable. He created works which are a true witness to artistic family values, but his profession as head decorator also influenced these works. Like in cinema, Thierry Chavenon uses light, volumes but mostly movement. "I like lit material, and despite the quick movements, I want us to perceive a strong trail, something which is dynamic, perspectives, lit spots, fading lights, erased through time, so fast that it becomes dynamic...." explains the artist. This universe is portrayed in black and white, its gestures reveals action painting, where subtlety is combined with suggestion to trigger expectation along with mystery.
