Presentation

Fabien Hemard is a French photographer-filmmaker-painter, born in 1968 in Bitche, France. Currently he lives and works in Paris. At the age of twenty, after having started studying medicine in Tours, he decided to give up everything and moved to the capital to devote himself to dramatic art. Rosine Margat, then director of Cours René Simon, trained him for 4 years in acting and directing. At the same time he bought, for a few francs at the time, an old super8 camera. He loves Franju, Kurosawa, Cassavetes, Blier, Kubrick, Renoir and directs his first short films with the help of some classmates. It was also during this period that he self-taught painting. In this area, he particularly admires the work of Da Vinci, Matisse, Klimt, Schiele, Bacon, Mondrian and Miro.

The photograph only appeared later in his career, at the end of the 90s. This time again it was with an old reflex unearthed for nothing in a store on Boulevard Beaumarchais that he made his debut. Very quickly he was caught up in the photographic practice that he immediately perceived as a gateway, a space for dialogue and possible exchanges between cinema and painting. He learned the technique and spent time as a professional with major fashion and luxury brands. Then he opened his own photography studio (Studio Moussorgski, in the 18th district of Paris). And it is there, far from the catwalks and parades that he can once again undertake a more personal work, mixing at leisure and in complete freedom, photography, cinema-video and painting. Co-founding member of the Escalier4 Collective, which brings together artists from all walks of life (actors, dancers, playwrights, visual artists, directors, musicians, photographers, etc.) and from all walks of life (Greece, United States,

Romania, Switzerland, Macedonia ...) around transdisciplinary projects, he participated as a director and photographer in all the creations of the collective between 1997 and 2019.
