Presentation

Emma Karila's source of inspiration is what man does with nature and his outlook on the world.

Through this look, his work is expressed in different ways.

First of all by the symbolism of the eye.

Meeting point between the outside world and our inner lives, the eye has the privilege of receiving its impressions of nature. It gives to those who observe it, like a reflection of the soul, its representations, its emotions, its intuitions.

And also by representing the elements of nature, bark, foliage ...

Then, she makes an abstract interpretation of it.

The artist often works from a photo or an emotion linked to nature. I then choose different means, watercolor, monotypes, materials, pigments, sand ... but also the earth, which allows me, by sculpting, to forge a direct link with the ground.

On a plastic support, she begins to paint in "reflection". Then print the result on paper or canvas. She then lets herself be guided, by shapes, undulations, rhythms, to insert pigments, sand or collages.

The eye sculpture is often split or broken.

Through this crack, or thanks to the paper and the wire mesh, it expresses the idea that we cannot see everything; may the truth be partially hidden from us.

The engraved sentence accompanying the work thus solicits our curiosity and encourages us to question what, subtly, escapes.

Emma Karila tries to introduce through her work what the physical eye cannot see: the invisible.
