LYM

Self-taught, LYM is a Franco-Algerian painter born in Algiers in 1986, in a family of artists. From the age of 15, after having recovered an old oil painting case that had belonged to her grandfather, she produced her first paintings. A true marvelous setting for her, painting then entered her life. LYM's multiple inspirations are imbued with / from different cultures and artistic movements.

During adolescence, she discovered Mahieddine Baya and his naive art, subsequently, Picasso's cubism, Magritte's surrealism, the committed and politicized street art of Keith Haring or Jean-Michel Basquiat, the modern art of George. Condo, or even the abstraction of the sign by Noureddine Chegrane. This multiculturality is omnipresent in all his works, full of life, colors, materials where freedom and partitioning coexist in harmony.

Through the works presented, she wished to deal with Liberty, a subject dear to her, and to express how the environment in which she grew up and which she calls her “partitioned freedom” influences her creations.

Behind these bright colors, LYM draws up on the one hand a critique of the politico-economic and social model of current society and on the other hand, illustrates her feelings and points of view on themes that touch her, among which, the freedom of expression and injustice in all its forms. LYM uses naïve representations to express its vision and raise awareness.
