Alain Gilberg

Born in Nancy in 1949 and currently living in Nancy. 

The abstract painting has been at the centre of my artistic approach for many years. I started working in the studio of the painter Henri Mauduit in the 80s with other painters, engravers, potters. I have continued this work for many years. 

I also completed this training in various workshops in the Paris region. I gradually moved away from the representation of reality to find the emotion I was looking for through the arrangement of color and shapes. This trend was confirmed by the works of famous painters such as Nicolas de Stael, Zao Wou Ki, Serge Poliakoff.

My approach is based on the gradual construction of an arrangement, an architecture of shapes and colors capable of eliciting emotion. My painting, rather intuitive, is part of the tradition of abstract expressionism. I rarely have a pre-established plan when I start painting, but Sometimes I make preparatory drawings. I often work on series of canvases for achieve the outcome.

From a first proposal to the color on the canvas I try to find a harmony and balance. With a certain let go, I let the project gradually form on the canvas, not too much gesture or matter. I leave room for the adventure of painting and also for accidents that can occur such as stains that I exploit. The main thing for me is the culmination of the work and the pleasure of the exchange.
