Béatrice Darmon

Born January 16, 1950, I knew very early on that art would be an integral part of my life. After studying visual arts at Saint Charles (Paris I), it was finally the teaching staff that caught my attention.

Sharing my passion with middle school students and then with high school students was my ambition. Bringing high school students enrolled in the plastic arts compulsory option to find their way, develop their own approach, integrate art schools, become a recognized artist for some of them has led me to put my own practice on hold. But it was not wasted time; if I could bring something to my students, they gave me a lot in return. For some thirty years I only had an artistic practice through intervening students, a mirrored practice one might say.

I have now been able to resume personal practice. An old decrepit wall, a weathered wood, a rust effect, a reflection on the water, a cloudy sky, a tree bark, a rock wall are all subjects that will allow me to express my taste for the material , the texture, for the color too, passing from whites to blues then to ochres.

Along with this rather materialist pictorial practice (on canvas or on medium, with acrylic sometimes mixed with sand or marble powder), I also practice assemblages with found materials (driftwood, bark and plant fibers, elements rusty iron, ropes ...)
