Stéphane Hette

Born in: 1968

Born in Chalon sur Marne, close to Reims in 1968, Stéphane Hette became a photographer at the age of 37. He discovered this vocation quite late, after having worked as an illustrator for comic books, and surprisingly Officer in the Army, before turning back to image and becoming a graphic designer. His past caught up wit him and his studies at Ecole St-Luc, an art school in Brussels still prove to be valid. He soon swapped his bridge photo camera for a macro lens reflex.

He has a passion for nature, but not naturalist photography! Stéphane Hette captures nature under a new light, He combines science and art which are inseparable. He soon begins to take innovative snap shots, while playing around with light, and this becomes his mitt. On a white background, colorful butterflies hover around tangible flowers. Transparency is obvious and the textures give the impression of being detached from the surface. Through this technique, without any retouches in retrospect, Stéphane Hette realizes an amazing feat.

Fauna and flora are more realistic than ever, yet straight out from a fairy tale. Environment is preserved, and through a lot of patience and knowledge, the species are made life like. At the same time, one needs patience to perceive the work, as it is an invitation to contemplate a fleeting and fragile moment, embodied by the butterfly.

Stephane Hette's work on butterflies has been awarded several times and he has exhibited throughout the world, especially the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in 2013 or Mont-Blanc Photo Festival in Saint Gervais Mont Blanc in 2014.
