Presentation

Jacques Ristorcelli aka Risto is a French artist, born in 1955 in Alger. He lives and works in Aix en Provence. He obtained his diploma in visual expression in the video department at Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts of Bourges.

He is among the pioneers of artistic video, during the early 80's, he initially collaborated with Cahiers du Cinéma and then tackled illustration, simultaneously creating multimedia.

As a faithful heir of pop art and the bazooka group, he draws those images that he comes across in comic books and pulp magazines, but also from engravings and people images, not to mention personal photography. He cuts, re-frames, roughs them out, redraws details, assembles collages.

A companion of the artist trails like Raymond Pettitbon, Robert Longo and Richard Prince, he created compositions such as interior theater interiors, which are refined and ludicrous, romantic and violent.

A well-known artist, he has exhibited his work abroad, mainly Japan where he also lived and was able to acquire in-depth knowledge of the Japanese artistic work, Japanese authors of comics strips. He was regularly invited for comic festivals, his works were published by Editions Matière.
