Daniel Despothuis was born in Pamiers in 1949, self-taught, he learned the technique of painting by making figurative works. During this apprenticeship, however, his research is not limited to only theoretical and practical aspects; his gaze is already on what is beyond the objects and subjects he paints, wanting to free himself from appearances in order to grasp their "truths". However, this is not enough for his desire to unravel the “mysteries”.
His meeting with Yolande Leger allows him to deepen the psychology of abstract art and to open up to contemporary art as he wished. From then on, he never ceases to study, work and explore infinite spaces between mysterious silences and symbolism of the universe. Subtle observer of the surrounding world, he expresses through the most varied and heterogeneous techniques and materials, the transformations, the perplexities, the doubts and the spiritual misery in which contemporary society struggles.
The choice of themes for a journey through the mysterious homes of the spirit; the seduction of the mystery, the immanence of the symbol, the psychological projections are the references because the dominant of the lyrical motif knows how to transmit and involve the viewer.
