Presentation

Charles Auffret studied at the School of Fine Arts in Dijon under the supervision of the sculptor Pierre Honoré. It is imbued with the Burgundian sculpture that surrounds it: that of the churches of Autun, Cluny or Vézelay, or that of Claus Sluter, François Rude and François Pompon. He continued his training at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1951 and discovered other artists, whose works touched him deeply: Charles Despiau, Robert Wlérick and Charles Malfray.

In 1958, he moved to Paris in a workshop in the Buttes-Chaumont district that he never left. He received prizes, including that of the group of Nine in 1964. This prize, awarded by nine sculptors, rewards the work of a junior, by offering him a bronze copy of his work, produced by the Emile Godard foundry. He participates in numerous exhibitions in France and abroad. In 1958, he began teaching drawing at the Académie Malebranche, then drawing and sculpture at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Reims, where Léopold Kretz was a professor. In 1991, he was appointed professor at the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris between 1991 and 2001.
