Édouard Bénédictus, born June 29, 1878 in Paris 10th and died January 28, 1930, is a French chemist, decorator, painter and composer. In 1909, he filed a patent for the invention of a sheet glass process. Biography Édouard Bénédictus was born to parents of Dutch origin. Her aunt is Judith Gautier, daughter of the writer Théophile Gautier. It is she who tries to divert him from artistic studies which she considers to be futile, and directs him towards chemistry. The young man will study in Darmstadt, Germany, without giving up his artistic inclinations (paintings and musical compositions). Around 1900, he joined the Société des Apaches. On November 25, 1909, he filed a patent for a laminated glass process that he had discovered in 1903 by accidentally dropping a glass jar containing a celluloid solution from a ladder, and he found that the jar did not shatter. On July 7, 1911, he founded the “Société du Verre Triplex”, which was taken over by Saint-Gobain from 1927. During the 1920s, abandoning applied sciences, he was renowned for his Art Deco-style creations, working in alongside Jean Saudé, among others. In 1925, Laure Albin Guillot executed her photographic portrait. He died in January 19306 and the eulogy was delivered by Paul Léon.
