Olivier Filleul

Born in 1965 in Petit-Quevilly (76) to parents both plastic arts teachers, grandsons of maternal grandparents who were also plastic arts teachers and recognized artists, I was immersed in painting, drawing and sculpture always.

From manager of condominiums in Paris to painter, the adventure of painting only started for me in January 2009, following a fit of anger. I felt the desire to bear witness to the beauty of the landscapes of the Breton countryside where I now live, which being unfairly mistreated. Professional since 2010, I try to the extent of my means to share the emotion felt at the sight of a hedge, an "old shell" of a sky, a picturesque place ... A course rewarded by several awards, I was also selected at the 43rd Salon of Official Marine Painters at Trocadéro (2014) and have been a member of the Taylor Foundation since 2017.

My goal is to bear witness to the fragile beauty of everything that makes the particularities of these landscapes; I try to share with the observer, the emotion provoked in me, the sight of a landscape, which at first glance could seem ordinary but which conceals for those who are willing to take the trouble to look, a beauty simple but true. For me, it is about trying to sublimate a place, for a moment, to attract the gaze and attention of my contemporaries to what they look at but no longer see and which could in the more or less long term disappear, when you haven't already.

The medium in painting that I like is gouache which I treat on paper but also on canvas. This technique allows me to work quickly and has a rendering, a depth that I cannot find elsewhere.
