1960, decade of all possibilities. In an epic sky, behind thick clouds, rises a hippie sun. An era of peace which hums tunes of freedom. From the womb of nations, a whole new generation is hatching. Eyes full of stars. Heads full of hopes. On the clock of happiness, finally strikes, the hour of " flower power " ...

... It was at this time, when millions of Americans raised their petal umbrellas in the streets of Washington to cover themselves with the noise of bullets, that in Paris, in the fall of 1964, was born under the sign of the flower, Valérie Amouyal Tordjman.

The flower of the soul

Very early on, an intense artistic sensibility seized the young girl. So much so that the dream of independence, the thirst to learn and the burning desire to create soon dictate the choices that will forge the rest of his life. It was only 16 years old, with a flower in a gun and a charcoal heart, that Valérie decided to leave the college benches to follow a decorator training at the “MJM Graphic Design” school of applied arts.

In this den where the visual is king, the aspiring esthete whispers images in the ear. The pupil is introduced to drawing, becomes familiar with the visual arts and learns to tame space as well as to identify lighting. The time of the first sketches, plans, models, perspectives and other graphic processes which forever give him a sense of beauty.

At 18, Valerie began to practice as a floral designer before developing at 24, her own business.

For ten years, in contact with small traders as well as department stores, Valérie knew how to see windows as scenes without an actor in order to raise the display to the rank of decorative art. Arousing the curiosity of customers, seducing the imagination of passers-by, making them want to go through the door, such was the ambition of the one who, as an alchemist of products, has endeavored to transform goods into works of art.

The flower of age

It is on the ground that this worker of reality sharpens her first weapons in the matter. Getting up before the sun, taking the road under the moon to arrive at dawn is the daily life of the one who has learned so much by spending entire mornings humbly scrutinizing the movements of floral producers.

By dint of rage and perseverance, the neophyte quickly understood the language of flowers. Throughout her encounters with roses, lilies and irises, chrysanthemums, orchids and jasmines, the young shoot has learned to cherish flowers, to select them, sort them, wash them, cut them, treat them, harmonize them then arrange them, according to his desires and his inspirations, in bowls or vases, baskets or bouquets. From the chalice to the corolla, from their scent to their scent, nothing of the flower is foreign to it.

The flower of art

Alongside our daily work, there are projects that are forged over a lifetime.

Which crystallize our existence to give it meaning, which we have worn for so long and experienced so intensely that they express our essence and reflect our being. In short, the great adventure that we meditate in silence but that we will not realize. Hers, today or never, Valérie Tordjman decided that it was time to live it.

After having spent her life designing sets for purely ornamental purposes, the decorator now aspires to create in a purely aesthetic approach. This is why, in 2019, Valérie takes off her artisan outfit to put on her artist dress and finally embrace her lifelong dream: floral sculpture.

At the crossroads of visual arts and urban art, all of Valérie Tordjman's work consists of sculpting various emblematic objects of pop-culture with flowers.

Fascinated by modern art and pop art, the visual artist draws her inspiration from the mannerism of Giuseppe Arcimboldo, the freedom of Andy Warhol and the neo-pop of Jeff Koons to create her own figurative works of art intended to sublimate the reality.
