France Born in: 1973

Alexandre Aubry aka Api is a French artist born April 13, 1973 in Boussy Saint Antoine, in the Parisian suburbs. He first began a career as a painter, statuary and restorer in the Gérard Haligon company. From 1999 to 2009, this activity gave him the opportunity to immerse himself in a very rich aesthetic universe. He works there on behalf of many contemporary artists, mainly Niki de Saint Phalle, Robert Combas, or Dubuffet, Giacometti, Armand, Di Rosa etc ...

At the same time, he developed his artistic dream, an original dream, his own. Marked by the styles of Roy Lichtenstein, Keith Harring, Speedy Graphito, Erro ...

Indeed, very inspired by the culture of the 80s, and by the fictional characters who accompanied his youth, his compositions feature mythical figures from comics, cartoons or even video games.

In its paintings, API brings the golden age of television and technicolor back to life, with extremely dynamic staging that “bursts through the screen". Some of his works are even branded with the acronym “channel 99", a fictitious TV channel which serves as a common thread for his collection.

The characters come alive and cross under his brush, and their image is recovered to create a new story: the world of childhood is rethought in a surprising light, where pessimism in bright colors.

The big icons are revisited, and what is assumed here is the visual shock, the destabilization of a spectator who no longer knows where to look.

We will note the precision and the purity of the black lines which envelop his forms, and which make his works true "graphic moments".
