Sovann Nou

Born in: 1976

France

Biography
Sovann Nou has made Cambodia, his hometown, the leitmotiv of his work. She was born in 1976 during the end of the genocide committed by the Khmer Rouge regime. An artist, now she owns her own workshop in Saint-Paul-de-Leon. Her origins are part of her artistic universe with her use of the gold, copper and silver leaf..... all these elements have its origins in the Asian culture (they are especially use in Buddha temples). Gold remains the common thread of her creation. Her name evokes vocation since it means "gold" in the Khmère language. Sovann Nou infiltrates this material in her abstract compositions, modulable according to the light. On the other hand, the artist perfects her figurative art, through her mangas and comic trips (from 1960-1980). Her collages include Super Man, Star Trek and its characters or sport myths recuperated from magazines. Her work is recurrently exhibited in the French capital.
