Alessandro Montalbano

Alessandro Montalbano was born in 1962 in Catania, Sicily. He studied at the School of Fine Arts of Florence where he acquired a solid training in painting and sculpting. By the end of the 80s, he moved to Paris and started a career as a sculptor,he uses terracota, plaster and marble.

His painting is part of the Expressionist art with meticulous graphics and free gestures. His sculptures, they resemble complex compositions: metal, wood, assemblies of plaster...... rhythm guides his work. He approaches the relationship between emptiness and fullness which generates a rhythm. "Create a void through a full and fill that one by creating a rhythm", says the artist. He makes his compositions with bronze (welded and cast) and embellishes them with references of the history of art or with deep reflections. His pieces crystallize a tension, a tear where grace raises each tension. Elevation accompanies duality.

Alessandro Montalbano has exhibited his work throughout Europe and the United States since more than 30 years. His career has been awarded with several prizes: Princess Grace Foundation Award, Guest of Céqar (Monaco 1994), Susse Frères Fondeurs Prize (Paris 1991). His pieces were acquired by the open-air museum, Les Terrases de Fontvieille, in Monaco, where they are exhibited besides the work of César, Arman, Calder, Botero...
