Presentation

Born in 1927 and died in 2007, Pierre Fichet is a French painter. His career started in 1949. The young artist hesitated between figuration and abstraction. He alternated between them for several years and then in 1952 "decided for abstraction", according to his own words, a field he pursued all along his career.

His work, the result of lyrical abstraction, which according to art critic Lydia Harambourg are "geometric compositions solidly structured, whose intellectural exigence and spiritual preoccupations flirt with a Jansenism that he does not deny" He then superimposes increasingly thin layers in order to achieve an affect of transparence suggesting an infinite spatiality".

Pierre Fichet exhibited for the first time in 1955. He has made numerous exhibitions all along his career. In 1959, he participated in the first Paris Biennale, inaugurated by André Malraux at the Museum of Modern Art. Recently, the canvas of Pierre Fichet were part of the exhibition "L'Envolée Lyrique", at the Museum of Luxembourg in 2006.
