Hans Werner Berretz (Ha Webe)

Born in: 1951

Translation in progress

Born on 26 July 1951 in Würselen (Germany). Complete high-level studies in economics and textiles. In 1985, under the pseudonym Ha Webe, he founded the AVENTIERE group including artists such as Tatsuhiko Yoko-Japan, Michael Koulakov - Russia, Claudia Pisello - Italy, Joseph Medvd-Yugoslavia, Reinhold – Germany. Hans Werner Berretz has exhibited as much as in Germany and abroad, in galleries which promote his works but also in several museums or public collections: Paris, Berlin, Aachen, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Frankfurt, Munich, Rottach-Egem, Bayreuth, Zurich, Basel, Bonn, Spa, Tokyo and New York. He showed his artworks several times at the Ludwig Museum in Aachen where he also gave art courses and animated art workshops. For many years he has worked with composers such as Violeta Dinescu, Bernd Hanschke, Michael Denhoff and Karlheinz Stockhausen. This cooperation was never a one-way. Many of them are inspired by the works of Ha Webe as Bernd Hanschke with his "exaggerated" musical compositions or Violeta Dinescu in the image of the string quartet "Fugue de mort" for Paul Celan's poem. "The approach of Hans Werner Berretz's musical painting instantly provokes incomprehension and fascination; A relationship which tends more towards agitation than towards calm: sound colors continuously vibrate with musical tuning. Hans Werner Berretz is committed to the musicians of the 20th century, where beauty and harmony as the main pillars of music have been replaced by artistic language that is often hard, sincere, without compromise. » - Marianne Günther, Musikhochschule Karlruhe, March 1990
