Presentation

Niclas Castello grew up in the former eastern part of Germany. After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, he discovered the fascination of colors. Inspired by the talent of his mother and the legendary Paris fashion shows, he found his way to art and created his first paintings. Castello lived in Paris in 2002 with the artists in the Montmartre district. In 2003 he returned to Germany and studied art at a private university.

In a few years, Castello was able to become part of the contemporary art world represented by many prestigious galleries like Guy Hepner in New York and Los Angeles. The Avant Gallery in New York and Miami and also the Above Second in Hong Kong, where his works were hung next to Andy Warhol, Gerard Richter, Jeff Koons, not to mention Damien Hirst.

The famous American performer and curator: Arleen Schloss, mentor of artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring, was one of the first to acknowledge Niclas Castello's talent. The artist spent two years in his mentor's New York loft, he immersed himself in neo-expressionist art and developed his own style.

The sculptures and paintings of Niclas Castello are inspired by Pop Art aesthetics, displaying celebrity images and luxury brands. They highlight consumerism and the relationship between art and society. His sculptures with metal lips are a tribute to Jeff Koons, and the luxury series are reminiscent of Takashi Murakami, while his neo-expressionist paintings show the influence of Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Niclas Castello's work has been exhibited in prestigious institutions, as well as in international fairs such as Art Basel Hong Kong (2016), LA Art Show (2016) or Art Cologne (2016). His works are already a part of many prestigious auction houses such as Philips de Pury or London and New York.
