Madeleine Dietz

Germany Born in: 1953
Born in 1953 in Germany, Madeleine Dietz studied at the School of Art in Mannheim and was particularly interested in books and in illustration. She is known for her installations and her unsettling performances and videos in very symbolic places such as churches or cemeteries.

She produced her 1st performance and video installation in 1986 and received the Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler Prize in 1992 on the occasion of her first light installation.
Then, Madeleine Dietz produced several works in churches such as the installation" ?So that, whoever enters sees the light" in the Lutheran Church of the Twelve Apostles in Frankenthal, Germany.
The work of Madeleine Dietz is marked by a profound tension between opposing concepts: protection and threat, rise and decline, life and death.
Subsequently, she was awarded various fellowships and worked in Paris, Florence, Houston, Barcelona.
In 2003, she was awarded the Ernst Baerlach Prize in Hamburg.
