Biography

Born in 1961 in Erfurt, Hans-Christian Schink is a German artist and photographer of international renown. He lives and works in Berlin and Leipzig.

Hans-Christian Schink is the son of professors of art and art history. His dream was to become a paleontologist, but it could not be realized, because of his refusal to enroll in the Popular Army for 3 years of military service. Hans-Christian Schink then becomes a technician and controller of measurement systems.

While practicing this job that he didn?t like, he decided to start photographing as a hobby. From 1986 to 1993 he studied photography at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig with Joachim Jansong. The following years he received several scholarships, including one from the Künstlerhaus Schloss Wiepersdorf Cultural Foundation, and then in 2008, from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation .

In 2002, he was artist-in-residence at the Villa Aurora Künstlerhaus, in Los Angeles. He has received several awards, including the "Photo Award? (Germany) in 2004 for his book " Traffic Projects ". Numerous other awards followed.
