Doris Hahlweg was born in 1957 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She lives and works in Munich, Germany.
From 1978 to 1986, Doris Hahlweg studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, with great artists like Hans Ladner and Rudi Tröger. She obtained a scholarship from the Bavarian region that allowed her to join the International Summer Academy of Fine Arts in Salzburg, Austria. After this training, she got settled as an independent artist in 1986 before going back to Brazil for two years and becoming part of an artistic residence.
She currently lives and works in Munich, in Germany.
The artist considers painting like an experience where there are infinite variations and where one can always learn something new. Doris is known for her obsession for harmonious and organized shapes, she rejects the traditional rules of beauty in a painting. Her works are a combination of colors and rhythm. She constantly and gradually works with colors, in order to reveal nature under a more transparent or rough light. She bases her compositions on architectural principles, highlighting space.
