Originally from Hong Kong, Almond Chu graduated in 1986 from the Photography school in Tokyo. In 1993, he opened his own studio in which he began working on artistic and commercial projects.
His photos address several themes, without losing sight of uniquely aesthetic and bewitching aspects.
He is known worldwide, he was invited to exhibited his work in several countries like Germany, Italy, Denmark, Canada, Russia, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and New Zealand.
In 1993, he was awarded the Agfa Fellowship Young Photographer prize by the Council of Asian culture. In 2004, he was invited to be one of the main speakers at the International Literary and Aesthetic Heritage Confabulation, organized by the University of Bonn and National Center for Art and Exhibitions of the Federal Republic of Germany. In 2005, he founded the artistic photography organization, pH5 Photo Group, whose aim is to promote artistic photography in Hong Kong. After this first experience, he founded the artistic photography magazine pHi in 2007 and became chief editor. He is also the founder of the International photo festival in Hong Kong. In 2015, he was nominated for the Pictet Prize.
His series have been collected by several museums like the Pouchkine Fine arts Museum, Art Museum in Hong Kong, Art museum in Guangdong, Lee Hysan foundation, Deutsche Bank and private collectors.
