Presentation

Bela de Kristo was born in Hungary and studied in Wien and Budapest, while working on Hungarian film sets. After graduating from art school in Budapest, the artist moved to Paris and attended the Academy Julian, taking part in an exhibition at the Duncan Gallery (1948) and the Carlton Gallery (1950). Experimenter by nature, de Kristo passed through different forms of expression: from the animated drawing to painting, from the theatrical scenography to illustrations for books of childhood. Above all, he devoted himself to painting under the influence of Cubism and Russian Constructivism, presenting echoes of Picasso and Malevich. He loved colors: harmonizing shades and colors, he broke the rigid cubist lines representing everyday subjects.
