Presentation

Karbalaei Mohammad Kazem Izi was born in March/April 1933 in the village Izi, in the central district of Sabzevar county. He has had his primary schooling up to the forth grade and has studied books such as "Stories of the Prophets", "The Mouse and the Cat" by Obeid Zakani, "A'agh-e Valedein" (the term a'agh describes a child who is not obedient and tends to bother his/her parents) and many more of the ones that were common in his social type in the small school of the village (that is called maktab-khaneh).

He was praised for his paintings by the school teachers, but he had to give up studying due to family necessities and his nerve problem, epilepsy. Then he travelled with his father and uncle to follow their profession as a brewing stove maker. Many of these trips were by bicycle, so he had enough time to enjoy the sight of the buildings and the scenery. In 1954 and 1957 he went to al-A'tabat al-Aliyat (cities such as Karbala, Najaf... that are cosidered holy places by Shia Muslims) and according to his interest in painting, he has illustrated whatever he has seen.

In 1989 by a strike to his head when he fell off, he lost one of his eyes, but apparently it was by this accident that he became seizure free. He has worked as a part time servent in the primary school of the village from 1972 to 2010. He got married in 1998 at the age of fifty five. Now he has two daughters, one eighteen and the other sixteen years old. Karbalaei Kazem and his family are insured by the Aid Commitee.
