Lucilla Gattini

Born in: 1951

Translation in progress

Lucilla Gattini was born in Florence on August 1. 1951.
In 1971 she became Giulio Ciniglia’s pupil at his studio in Rome and subsequently his assistant.
Three years later she moved to Pietrasanta to learn marble techniques and since 1974 she has settled a studio there where she lives and works.
In her works the classical basis is not only a formal choice but is a necessary link between the ancient and unchanged values of man, and today’s aspiration and troubles.
Given the meaning and the symbology it has being acquiring over the centuries, the mythological reference becomes also a means to express the contemporary mankind.
The artist uses marble, terracotta and a painted and glazed mixed material she herself prepares. Yet she has also realised works in bronze.
Besides the production of sculpture, presented in exhibition and sold directly to the public, Lucilla Gattini has also done some drawings of monuments and plastic models of basins and fountains, built in several kinds of marbles.
