Marina Paris

Marina Paris is an artist and a photograper born in Sassoferrato in 1965, living and working in Rome.

She has always focused on the persistence of memories and their fluctuations, expressed through the use of various techniques such as photography, drawings, and installation. Memory, presented as a means to reinterpret events and places, appears in her works as a starting point that is always constituted as a real situation, visualized in a distant time that comes to be reconstructed through different artistic pratices.

Paris has become particularly interested in what has been defined as 'non-places'; communal spaces of interaction such as schools, hospitals, train and bus stations, waiting rooms and hallways that are rooted in the collective memory of society. These places, when lacking any sign of human presence, bear a strange resemblance to each other. In a sort of disconcerting standardization that destroys their specific identities and blurs their character, these places in the end become spaces of control and strongly claustrophobic in nature.
