Artist-painter, calligrapher. Born in Tokyo, Mariko ASSAÏ has lived in France since 1985 and exhibits mainly in Europe and Japan.
With a Japanese cultural background and a master in the art of traditional calligraphy, she has also been immersed in Western art since she created in France.
One of the very few calligraphers holding a 5th dan professorship present in Europe, she is also a past master in the art of traditional Japanese watercolor "gansai". For this ancestral technique, she prepares her own mineral and vegetable pigments with a pestle, mixing them with skin glue to finally deposit them with a sable brush on extraordinary Japanese papers mounted on canvas.
