Presentation

Shohei Otomo is a Japanese artist known for his hyper realistic illustrations with a ballpoint pen. Born in Tokyo in 1980, he is the son of the famous Katsuhiro Otomo, the Creator of the manga Akira. He graduated from the Tama Art University with a degree in oïl painting, but he left this technique later on. Not liking the pigments of oil paint, it was thanks to the ballpoint pen that his creativity started flourishing in black and white.

His drawings tells us about modern Japan, divided between tradition and modernity. Geishas in sneakers, army officials, marijuana addicts or students armed to their teeth inhabit the provocative and benevolent universe of his pieces. The world of manga and traditional Japanese erotic prints are not far from it, and permeate the work of the artist.

Shohei Otomo exhibits his work regularly in Japan and Australia as well as in Mexico and France.
