Yuko Nakaya was born in Aichi, Japan. She lives and works in Japan. In 1989 she graduated from Meijo University, Major in Pharmacy. Between 1985 and 1991 she studied at the Kinichiro Kato and Kazuko Niwa private art school. The she moved to Belgium and between 2008-2012 she studied at the Academie des Beaux-Arts in Watermael-Boitsfort.
For Yuko Nakaya, no illustration, no painting should be a wall, a barrier, but would rather be windows. These windows like doors that aspire our emotions.
They are a bridge between the "here" and the "beyond". They are not windows through which, from the inside one looks at the landscape, they are an entrance towards our feelings. Yuko Nakaya wants to capture and represent the light.
Not an external light, but the light that resides in our hearts, our soul that makes us shine from the inside. It is a warm light. Being able to reach and wake up this subconscious part in humans is, for the artist, a fabulous accomplishment.
