Born in 1970 - Jordan
Katia Al Tal is a Jordanian artist born in 1970 in Amman, where she lives and works today. She studied psychology and political science at university, but has always been interested in art, a passion that she developed when she arrived in France.
Katia Al Tal mainly creates sculptures and ceramics.
The artist was first exhibited in 2004 at the XVA Gallery in Dubai and from the beginning met with great success. Since then the exhibitions succeed one another.
Her sources of inspiration are diverse: her functional sculptures are inspired by her culture and history (in particular of her dual cultural identity at the same time Parisian and Jordanian). Her line of ceramics ("Sadeem" collection) combines classical figures with Arabic calligraphy. Each piece of ceramic needs 10 days of production. While her sculptures are more abstract, even if they are inspired by more physical realities. Indeed, the artist is fascinated by bodies, and in particular by bones.
Katia Al-Tal artworks have been exhibited in Europe as well as in many Arabic countries worldwide, including at the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts for the 70 years the Jordanian contemporary art in 2013; at the Environmental Themes Sculpture Exhibition of Dubai in 2009; at the Asian Contemporary Art Fair of New York in 2008; or even at the Clay Figurine Sculpture Exhibition of Amman in 2006.
