Born in 1958 - Latvia
Textile artist Baiba Osïte emerged on the Latvian artistic scene in the 1980s. A graduate of the Textile Art department of the Latvian Fine Arts Academy, her work is inspired by traditional etnographic patterns.
Baiba Osïte's work evolves to a more audacious expressivity. Her textile creations are influenced by different cultures. For the artist, art is a means of introspections and expression. As a textile artist, she is interested in the concept, the execution and the materials which are essential in order to express her ideas. Their variety allows her to introduce new tendencies in Latvian textile art. The artist includes for example metalic fibres in her tapestries.
Baiba Osïte explores and dissects patters that she sees and reassembles them to recreate a world from her materials. Nature is present in her through the use of raw wood. Baiba Osïte's creativity opens new possibilities in textile art, which doesn't limit itself to traditional materials and techniques.
