Ahmad Zakii Anwar was born in 1955 in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
He currently lives and works in Johor and Kuala Lumpur. Ahmad Zakii graduated from the School of Art and Design, MARA Institute of Technology of Malaysia.

Ahmad Zakii started his career as a graphic artist by creating some of the most famous advertisements of his times. It was not until later on that he turned towards arts, to which he applies his great technical mastery.
The artist practices several diverse techniques: Charcoal in oil paint, he rapidly built a reputation thanks to his pieces about dead nature and his realistic portraits.
He is recognized for capturing cityscapes but mostly for the psychological and cinematographic dimension of his work. Zakii’s interest for the spiritual or metaphysical aspects of urban life, can be seen through his use of icons, symbols and allegories.

His works has been exhibited widely in Southeast Asia, at the Valentine Willie Fine Art (Kuala Lumpur, 2012), the Nadi Gallery (Jakarta, 2010), the NUS Museum (Singapore, 2009) and the Numthong Gallery (Bangkok, 2006) as well as in the US (At the AndrewShire Gallery, 2011 and Barbara Greene Fine Art, New York, 1999). His work was exhibited as well at the first edition of Asia Now, in Paris, in 2015.
